Visa launches virtual card

(26 February 2010 – Japan) Japan Net Bank (JNB) has partnered with card giant Visa to deliver the nation’s first virtual debit card programme. The net bank, which boasts over 2 million clients, is Japan’s first net-only bank and under the Visa programme will be issuing customers, who request a virtual card, with a unique 16 digit debt account number.

The debit account number will be linked to a nominated JNB account, which the customer can draw funds from to make purchases for a 10 day period that the card is valid for.

The virtual card can only be used for transactions up to the value of US$1,000 (A$1,109) and is accepted at online merchants around the word that accept Visa.

Mitsuhiro Komura, senior executive and managing director, Japan Net Bank said that with the launch of JNB's Virtual Visa Debit service, customers are now provided with a convenient and safe way of making payments at online merchants.
