Beijing to get Westpac branch at end of month

(2 June 2011 – Australia) Westpac has received final approval to open a branch in Beijing, the bank’s second branch in China. Westpac has one branch in Shanghai which opened in 2008, and has planned to open two more branches in the country.

Wespac’s institutional bank group executive Rob Whitfield said China is a strategically important market for the company’s customers.

"We are committed to investing in the region and growing offshore to grow onshore. The branch approval represents a significant step for Westpac in our ability to support a growing number of corporate, institutional and private bank customers in China.'

The bank said yesterday the Beijing branch would be in the World Finance Centre in Beijing's central business district, opening on 29 June.
