Goldman bias at managerial level lawsuit claims

(16 September 2010 – USA) Goldman Sachs is being been sued by three former female employees for gender pay discrimination. In the suit, filed in the federal court of New York, Goldman Sachs is referred to as ‘famously secretive’.

As well as claiming that male peers are paid more in the same roles as women, the plaintiffs allege that men are promoted more often and are given more ‘lucrative and promising opportunities and assignments’.

The investment bank said in an email statement that the suit is ‘without merit’.

People are critical to Goldman Sachs business, and we make extraordinary efforts to recruit, develop and retain outstanding female professionals, the statement read.

The suit claims that the bias is made at managerial levels and that the bank’s practices are ‘no accident and that ‘Goldman Sachs has intentionally implemented these companywide policies and practices in order to pay their male employees more money than their female counterparts, and to promote them more frequently’.
