Keating to address Sibos on China

(26 September 2006 – Australia) Former Australian prime minister Paul Keating will address the SWIFT (Society of Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) Sibos 2006 conference. Keating will speak on "Doing Business in China: The Challenges and Opportunities" at a breakfast meeting in Sydney on Tuesday, 10 October 2006.

"This is an exciting opportunity for delegates to gain valuable insight from the man responsible for initiating and developing strong bilateral and business links throughout the Asia Pacific region," SWIFT head of commercial activities in Asia Pacific Ian Johnston said.

"The focus of Sibos this year is on the economies of the Asia Pacific region, particularly the development of their financial infrastructure and banking systems. As we increasingly see in Australia, these developments will have a massive influence for the broader global economy and financial industry in decades to come," Johnston said.

Other key speakers at Sibos 2006 include David Morgan, CEO of Westpac, John McFarlane, CEO, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited, Gianfranco Tabasso, Chairman, Payments Commission, European Association of Corporate and Philip Lowe, Assistant Governor, Reserve Bank of Australia.
