Key people for ANZ Institutional

(22 August 2008 – Australia) ANZ bank has announced two key senior appointments reporting to the managing director for the institutional division. The first appointment is Alistair Currie, who will become the new managing director of Working Capital. Secondly, Gary Newman will take up a newly-created role as the head of Relationship Management.

Both roles report to the group managing director for Institutional, Peter Hodgson.

Hodgson said that Currie is a global banker who will strengthen ANZ’s cash, trade, payments and clearing services while Newman will bring product and relationship management expertise to the new role.

ANZ described Alistair Currie’s primary responsibilities in overseeing the Working Capital business as providing ANZ’s institutional clients with streamlined business solutions and adding a regional perspective to the leadership team.

Currie joins ANZ from HSBC where he has 18 years of experience in transaction services, trade finance and commercial banking. He was most recently president and chief executive officer of HSBC Taiwan.

ANZ said that Gary Newman will oversee ANZ’s mid-market and top tier customer relationship businesses (Institutional Banking, Corporate Banking and Financial Institutions), with the primary objective of creating and implementing a strategy for growth.

Newman returns to ANZ after 13 years at Citigroup where he was most recently head of Corporate Banking Australia and New Zealand.
