More movement at NAB board
(4 May 2004 – Australia) National Australia Bank has strengthened the amount of banking experience on its board by appointing former VISA International president and CEO Malcolm Williamson.
UK born Williamson has been based in the US with VISA after leaving Standard Chartered Bank where he was group chief executive for five years. Before this he was managing director of Girobank.
He also worked at Barclays Bank.
Once the appointment has received the regulatory rubber stamp, Williamson will join the boards at NAB, Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank.
NAB chairman Graham Kraehe, whose own position has been the subject of much media scrutiny this week, said the appointment of Williamson was part of NAB’s program of board renewal.
"The next step will be the appointment of an Australian based non executive director with banking experience which I expect to be able to announce soon," Kraehe said.
Williamson’s appointment comes on top of media speculation that two of its most senior directors are tipped to resign from the board following a crisis meeting held in Melbourne on Sunday night.
