NSW premier not happy about Westpac job relocation
(22 September 2006 – Australia) The New South Wales state government has told Westpac it might not renew any contracts with the bank if it forges ahead with plans to send 400 jobs offshore.
State premier Morris Iemma said the government would do all it could to ensure the bank jobs remain in Australia.
He said the government would take into account moves by Westpac to relocate jobs offshore when the contract expired.
Westpac said it was considering relocating 400 loans processing jobs from Sydney to a processing centre in Bangalore as part of improving efficiency in lending.
The bank said it was still several months away from making any decision on the future of the jobs.
