RBA starts payments reforms review

(30 May 2007 – Australia) The Reserve Bank of Australia has released its Reform of Australia’s Payments System: Issues for the 2007/08 Review, which kicks off the bank’s formal process of consultation for the payments reforms over the past few years. The Issues Paper can be opened by clicking here.

According to the RBA, the review will be "broad in scope", and examine both the effects of the reforms, and how the regulatory regime can best contribute to competition and efficiency in the Australian payments system.

The RBA’s Issues Paper contains information supplied by East & Partners on the effects the interchange reforms have had on merchant surcharging.
