UK Xmas shoppers buy big online

(4 December 2007 – UK) Shoppers in the UK are set to spend a massive £5.6 billion online in the month before Christmas, up 55 percent on last year. British payments association Apacs said the number of adults shopping online had reached more than 30 million (out of a population of roughly 60 million), more than doubling over the past five years.

Apacs said more people were making Christmas related purchases online and warned of the potential dangers of internet shopping.

A website called, shopsafeonline, has been set up by Apacs, which contains information on MasterCard’s SecureCode and Verified by Visa systems.
