Westpac appoints new Specialised Capital Group head

(13th January 2004 – Australia) Westpac has appointed Grant Hodgetts as head of the bank’s new Specialised Capital Group in Victoria. He will report to the general manager of the Group, Sean McElduff. Hodgetts, who takes up the post in February, joins the bank from Macquarie Bank where he was head of Equity Raising and a director of Property Investment Banking. Before his stint at Macquarie, Hodgetts was a director at Richard Ellis.

McElduff said Westpac had created the Specialised Capital Group at the start of 2003 after acquiring 51 percent of Hastings Fund Management in 2002.

"Westpac has gained market recognition as a serious player in the acquisition, structuring and distribution of alternate assets to institutional and retail investors," he said.

He said the bank intended to build on its property and public and private partnerships business.

"The fact that he [Hodgetts] will be based in Melbourne shows we are serious about meeting the complex needs of both our corporate and investor customer bases in Victoria and across Australia," McElduff said.
