CBA puts bankers in branches for SMEs

(9 June 2009 – Australia) CBA is set to send business bankers into its retail branches in a bid to support small businesses in Australia. Dynamic Business reported CBA’s announcement of the relocation of specialised teams of business bankers to select retail branches.

CBA will start small, with a 12 month plan to send teams of business bankers to 16 retail branches in New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia. If this first phase proves successful, CBA will look to extend the move.

Bernard Tanner, chief operating officer, Local Business Banking for CBA, said that CBA’s small business clients frequently use the branch channel in a similar fashion to a retail customer.

Tanner believes the initiative will benefit small business clients with a greater level of convenience and collaboration between the client and their relationship manager.

Further, Tanner said that the bank has reviewed policies and procedures, invested in technology and expanded its national business banking footprint to cater for the needs of the small business market.

The new model provides small business customers with the level of service they require and provides a structure that allows CBA to improve its customer interactions, Tanner said.
