First Data links with China UnionPay

(13 March 2007 – Australia) First Data International and China UnionPay (CUP) have joined forces to offer Chinese visitors to Australia the ability to access funds from their home bank account using the Cashcard ATM network. The move is the first step of an arrangement that will see First Data and CUP work together to promote the acceptance of CUP cards in markets outside of China. First Data will provide transaction routing and payment processing services.

CUP International Division vice president Jeffery Huang said the relationship with First Data would provide the growing number of CUP customers visiting Australia with easy access to cash whether they were on business, holidaying or studying.

First Data Australia and New Zealand president Peter Wright said the relationship with CUP was an example of how the company was supporting the Chinese government’s aim for Chinese businesses to expand globally and provide stable access to cash for the increasing number of Chinese citizens travelling overseas.
